Why use media and the arts?

“Art is our true global language. It knows no nation, it favours no race and acknowledges no class. It speaks to our need to reveal, heal and transform. It transcends our ordinary lives and lets us imagine what is possible” – Richard Kamler of Seeing Peace Project

Art has been a common thread in our collective human culture since the first cave paintings thousands of years ago. As such, art can make topics more accessible to a wider section of the community. Even if someone is not an artist, they can still participate in community-based art projects through being engaged in forums leading up to artistic creations or by giving interpretations of the works that are created by the artists.

The art works can take on various forms such as:

•Visual arts (e.g. painting, sculpture, carving, etc.)

•Written and/or spoken word (e.g. poems, songs, stories, etc.)

•New media (e.g. film, graphics, technology, etc.)

•Performance (e.g. dance, theatre, etc.)
